The earliest American redware was made in Jamestown, Virginia circa 1630. The abundance of clay accounted for the great production in the American colonies. Today, Henderson's Redware of Bangor, Maine, reproduces redware by hand. This redware mug is accented with a food-safe yellow glaze. All of Henderson's Redware is functional within the context of its historic usage.
