The Ransom of Mercy Carter

On February 28, 1704, Mercy Carter is kidnapped from her home in Deefield, Massachusetts.  On that night a band of Indians infiltrate the small settlement and after killing a number of settlers, kidnap hundreds of others.  Mary and the other settlers are forced to walk three hundred miles north to an Indian village in Canada.  At first Mercy's only hope is to be ransomed and reunited with her family.  But as time goes by Mercy thinks less and less of ransom, Deerfield, and even of her "English" family.  As she discovers that the savages are not as savage as she thought and their ways become her ways, Mercy begins to wonder: If ransom comes, will she take it.  Based on historical fact.
